Middlesbrough and Birmingham City are both weighing up moves to sign Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, the Daily Mail have reported.

Foderingham is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of this season, and is reportedly free to speak to interested English clubs about a potential move south of the border when the transfer window reopens in January.

Current Middlesbrough number one Darren Randolph is said to be attracting interest from his former club West Ham, and it is thought that the North-East side have identified Foderingham as a potential replacement for the Irishman, should he return to the Hammers.

Birmingham meanwhile have also apparently expressed an interest in the 28-year-old, as they look to add to their options between the posts.

Since joining Rangers from Swindon in the summer of 2015, Foderingham has made 142 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants, helping them win promotion back to the Scottish Premier League during his debut campaign in 2015/16.

The return of Allan McGregor to Rangers in recent years has however impacted on Foderingham's opportunities at Ibrox, with the 28-year-old featuring just twice in the league this season.

The Verdict

I think this could be a good move for one of these two sides.

Birmingham do seem to have struggled to find a reliable number in the past few years, while 'Boro would surely find themselves in a similar situation were they to lose Randolph to West Ham.

The experience Foderingham has however, would surely mean he is capable to fill that role for one of these two sides, with his current contract situation meaning he should be affordable to them.

Having struggled for opportunities in recent years at Rangers, you feel Foderingham himself could be open to such a move in January.
