At the end of this season, the Football League is being rebranded to the English Football League (EFL).

Football League World has picked out the crème de la crème of Twitter quotes that perfectly sum up the situation…..

@seeley_nigel: “Somebody’s actually been paid shed loads of money to change the name from Football League to English Football League #EFL”

@AdamRawlinson: “Its stupid when there are welsh teams in it but I suppose its like the FA cup and the Premier League which features WELSH teams.”

@codyroyle: “just to further confuse an already confusing system.”

@justinjourno: “It’s a bit nonsensical really. I mean, why now? Why, at all?”

@cfccod: “You’re having a laugh if you think I’m calling the Football League the “EFL”.”

@SamOlusegun: “I think I always knew the Football League was in England but oh well thanks for the reminder #EFL”

@ncfckeith: “The new rebranding of the @football_league is a big steaming pile of Americanised crap. (And I’m sure the Welsh teams won’t like it either!)”

@JonJMiller23: “Next thing you know we’ll have to start calling it soccer.”

@TomHawksFC: “I’m sure Cardiff and Newport will be delighted to be playing in the English Football League next season…”

@iainduff: “I quite like it. It’s modern and clean.”

@_manishbhasin: “Hmmm undecided. What do you think?”

@wonkydog1: “@football_league I like it, but not sure they needed a rebrand.”

@ScoobyEDF: “@football_league No. Sounds too much like the EDL. Potential cause for embarrassment…”

@66mase: “@football_league Good to see that they’re sorting the important stuff!”

@dilldog_red: “I know it doesn’t matter to most, but at least the rebranding of the Football League will see an end to those dreadful shirt numbers! #efl”

@GaryJamesWriter: “Oh dear! You were THE Football League-1st, the original etc. now you’ve made yourself just another regional league!”

@CallMeBalders: “‘English Football League’ rebrand of @football_league is a huge #marketingfail. Awful ‘EFL’ acronym panders to plastic fans.”

@TheTilehurstEnd: “REBRAND: 127 years of history ditched because saying @football_league is too complicated in the modern world. #EFL”

@nadderley: “The Football League was called the Football League because it was the first one. Don’t really understand what the rebrand achieves.”

@Matt_Journalist: “We don’t need the ‘English’ bit in the English Football League rebrand. It’s only been around since 1888! Who thought of this? Awful call.”

@DamoclesCity: “@football_league I like the rebrand and think it’s a good move for them. I know, I know, I’m the worst person in the world.”

@_yates17: “The Football League rebrand looks like an energy company.”

@NoPogNoParty: “@FLeagueWorld pointless rebrand if you ask me. It’s fine the way it is now. Just sounds very much like EDL #flwrebrand”

@Jake_Taft: “@FLeagueWorld Absolute waste of money #flwrebrand”

Well, it appears that most people disagree with the rebrand, often because it seems like a backwards step, or a destruction of a legacy.
