Garry Monk was never a popular man in Cardiff after his stint with Swansea City, and he certainly hasn't done anything to raise his popularity.

However, he won't mind that one bit after leading his Leeds United team to a 2-0 win against Cardiff City in Saturday's early kick-off.

Leeds now sit in 14th place, although it may be a brief stay as the bulk of the weekend's Championship fixtures are still yet to be played.

Cardiff however sit in 22nd place, but they could end the day bottom of the league depending on the results of both Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers, who could both overtake the Bluebirds with a win.

Cardiff came the closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half when Icelandic international Aron Gunnarsson unleashed a strike that had the beating of Robert Green, but didn't have the beating of the post.

The teams remained tied until the 62nd minute when Chris Wood slotted home a penalty kick after sending Cardiff goalkeeper Ben Amos the wrong way. The penalty was given after defender Matt Connolly was adjudged to have fouled Pontus Jansson in the area.

Leeds sealed the win on the 82nd minute when former Swansea player Pablo Hernandez curled a delicious shot into the top corner that left Amos with no chance.

This is how Cardiff fans reacted to the defeat on Twitter and, despite only being eight games into the new season, many fans seem to be resigned to the fact they will be playing League One football next year...

Others seem to be keen on a managerial change...
