Twine, Mullin, Muldoon among those nominated for GMS Fans’ League Two Player of the Month award

It’s been an action-packed start to the new League Two season, bringing the sort of entertainment and drama that the fourth tier of English football so often does.

There have been some sensational individual performers but only six could make it onto the GMS Fans’ Player of the Month shortlist for September and October.

With voting for the award open, we’ve highlighted the six players in the mix and outlined why they’re there…

Václav Hladký – Salford City

The Czech goalkeeper turned down a new contract at St Mirren to move to Moor Lane in the summer as playing in English football was his “big dream” and he has certainly made the most of it so far.

No side in League Two has conceded fewer goals than Salford this season and Hladký’s displays between the sticks have been a key part of why.

In September and October, the 29-year-old conceded just six goals and kept five clean sheets in nine League Two games – quite the start to life below the border.

Jack Muldoon – Harrogate Town

In what is the first season in the Football League in the club’s history, Harrogate were always going to need players to step up and Muldoon has done just that so far.

September and October has seen the 31-year-old make a fast start to life in the fourth tier, scoring six times and adding two assists in eight League Two appearances.

The fact that Harrogate are 14th in the table and four points from the top seven will likely have some fans pinching themselves but it is down, in no small part, to Muldoon’s contributions.

Paul Mullin – Cambridge United

The 26-year-old’s form in front of goal has been ridiculous this season, in fact no EFL player has found the net more times than the Cambridge frontman this term.

With 12 goals in 10 games in the first two months of the season, Mullin has doubled the tally of next highest goalscorer in the division and is a key part of why his side are second in the table as things stand.

The striker penned a permanent deal at the Abbey in the summer and has proven one of the signings of the summer so far.

Anthony O’Connor – Bradford City

The Bantams’ start to the season has not been particularly remarkable but O’Connor has been one of the clear standout performers in the division.

The uncompromising centre-back has shown his quality through the first few months of the season, dominating opponents in the air and on the ground as well as helping to push his side up the field with his marauding runs forward.

O’Connor brought up his 100th appearance for the Yorkshire club recently but rarely will the Valley Parade faithful have seen him play at this level.

Scott Twine – Newport County

Twine is the latest in a long list of talented loan signings to impress at Rodney Parade, having made a fast start to the season in League Two.

The 21-year-old has helped to pull the strings for top-of-the-table Newport and shown his qualities in the final third, scoring three times and adding three assists in the first two months of the season.

Twine’s long-range shooting and set-piece delivery have proven particularly useful for Michael Flynn’s side so far this term, though at this rate Swindon Town may be looking to recall him in January.

James Wilson – Salford City

The former Manchester United striker has shown his quality at the start of his first full season with the Moor Lane outfit.

Whether it’s off the right, as part of a front two, or leading the line on his own, the 24-year-old has been a constant threat for Salford this term.

After being an unused substitute in the first two games of the campaign, Wilson proved his worth in September and October – firing in four goals and added an assist in his eight League Two appearances.
