Darren Bent has found game time hard to come by at Derby County this season, thanks to a combination of injury and sheer competition for places.

He still has goals in him, even at 33, and there has been talk of him leaving the team who currently sit second in the Championship in search of regular matches and the opportunity to get his form and fitness together again.

Burton Albion had been linked with the former Sunderland, Charlton Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur man early on in the transfer window but it had appeared that the trail had gone cold.

However, it looks as if the deal is on and could be completed before the weekend. Journalist Alan Nixon tweeted that the deal to take Bent to Derby manager Gary Rowett's former club to Burton could be done today.

The Verdict

I am in no doubt that Darren Bent still has something to offer and I think he could make the difference in the promotion push, grabbing the odd goal here and there.

Rowett seems prepared to give him regular gametime to help him get a last contract, which is a credit to his man-management skills and Burton would be getting an experienced and quality striker.
