Yesterday, Championship table-toppers Wolverhampton Wanderers looked set to agree a fee to sign Coventry City's promising young midfielder Ben Stevenson, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

That makes today's latest update from reliable local reporter Tim Spiers all the more surprising, and it is not good news for Wolves fans.

It looks as if the deal, which looked very much alive yesterday, has died out at the moment, although there is the caveat that a deal could be done later on in the day for the young midfielder.

The talented English midfielder has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues this season as injury has disrupted his season.

However, there is no doubting his ability and he has been an unused substitute for Tony Mowbray's side in recent weeks.

The Verdict

This is an odd one. It looked as if the deal was all set to be finalised yesterday and it would have made sense.

I'm not sure how strong Coventry's negotiating positions but maybe they've toughened up and refused to lose another huge talent from their academy.
