Bristol City are reportedly set to accept a bid of £20 million - plus £5 million in add ons - from Brighton for centre-back Adam Webster but many Robins fans appear optimistic despite the decision.

After a fantastic debut season at Ashton Gate, Webster has been linked with a number of Premier League sides throughout the summer, including Aston Villa, Leicester City, and Everton.

The 24-year-old made 47 appearances for City last season, winning two Player of the Year awards and finishing as the highest-rated defender in the Championship, according to Whoscored.

It seems as though Brighton could now be set to win the race for the Englishman.

According to Sky Sports, the Seagulls have made an offer in the region of £20 million plus add ons for Webster.

Bristol Post journalist Gregor MacGregor has suggested on Twitter that the bid will be accepted by the Bristol Club.

He added: “Not sure Bristol City can turn down that kind of money. Potentially Championship record fee.”

The centre-back’s exit could be a huge blow for the Robins’ play-off hopes as he was an integral player last season.

However, the sale would be a healthy profit on the reported £3.5 million they paid for Webster from Ipswich Town last summer.

The 24-year-old was himself a replacement for another talismanic defender that some likely felt would be sorely missed, Aden Flint.

That fact has not gone unnoticed amongst City fans and many have remained optimistic despite the decision.
