‘True character’, ‘Immense’ – Many Huddersfield Town fans urge club to keep hold of one man

Huddersfield Town forward Elias Kachunga’s current contract is set to expire in the summer and many Terriers fans have urged the club to hold onto him.

It’s been a difficult year for the Yorkshire club, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season and are now battling for survival in the Championship.

The arrival of new manager Danny Cowley in September has helped turn their fortunes around somewhat but they remain 18th, just three points above the drop zone.

It could be a summer of change for the Terriers as Cowley looks to shape his squad and they have a decision to make over Kachunga.

The 27-year-old has been a regular fixture this season, scoring twice and grabbing five assists in his 30 appearances, but his current deal is set to expire in the summer.

The Terriers do have an option to trigger a 12-month extension but their stance on the forward, who is the sixth-highest paid player at the club (Capology), remains unclear.

Kachunga originally joined Huddersfield on loan from Ingolstadt at the start of the 2016/17 season – a move that was made permanent in March 2017.

The DR Congo international, who is capable of playing all across the forward line, was impressive in the Terriers promotion season, scoring 13 times and providing four assists, but has been unable to reach that level since.
