A number of Birmingham City supporters have been reacting to Troy Deeney’s latest suggestion that the Blues were right to hype up the potential of Jude Bellingham and that the midfielder made the right decision signing for Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham proved to be a massive asset for the Blues and his sale to Borussia Dortmund could bring the club around £30 million, which is hugely important to their current financial situation. The midfielder was a revelation at St Andrew's last season and many fans were suggesting he would go on to enjoy huge success in his career and be an England international.

Upon his departure, Birmingham made the controversial decision to retire the number 22 shirt worn by the midfielder at St Andrew's to inspire other potential academy graduates at the club.

Writing for The Sun, Deeney suggested that the flack the club received for that decision is not looking as bad now given the development he has been showing in Germany. He also suggested that the hype placed around Bellingham by Birmingham has been proven to be fully merited with him believing that he has real star quality after his performances for Dortmund and England.

He wrote: "When Jude Bellingham left Birmingham City, aged 16 and having made 44 first-team appearances, the club retired his No 22 shirt.

"As a life-long Bluenose, I heard a fair bit of stick flying around about that decision.

"But when you see Bellingham now dictating games for Borussia Dortmund and looking so assured in the England midfield, you realise that this kid is genuinely special. He is absolute mustard."

Many Birmingham fans were delighted to see such comments being made by Deeney and some were left feeling vindicated with their early praise of the midfielder’s potential.
