Birmingham City have addressed a seven game winless run with three victories on the bounce of late and summer signing Troy Deeney has been a huge part of that.
The 33-year-old has struggled for consistency in the last couple of seasons but looks back to his best under Lee Bowyer and will be licking his lips at the prospect of out of form Reading. Deeney has chipped in with one goal and three assists in wins over Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Bristol City to reduce the gap between the Blues and the play-off places to just three points.
Blues supporters will be enjoying the security of mid-table at the moment having usually had to worry about their place in the second tier by finishing 17th or lower in each of the last five seasons.
Deeney took to Instagram in reflecting on an excellent week of preparation.
He wrote: “Another fun filled week finished.”

It is clear to see that Deeney is back enjoying his football again at St Andrew’s after a difficult final couple of campaigns with Watford. The 33-year-old has taken the armband in the last month or so and will be desperate to keep the supporters dreaming of competing for a spot in the top six.
Quiz: Have each of these 24 ex-Birmingham City academy players ever played in the Premier League?
Lowly Reading provide a great opportunity for the Blues to make it four consecutive wins. There are not many opportunities to put a run together like that for a team like Birmingham in the Championship and completing the feat would solidify Lee Bowyer’s position in the dugout.
Blues supporters would definitely go into the third international break of the season looking up rather than over their shoulders, which they have not been able to do for a long while.
The Royals have the individuals in John Swift and Ovie Ejaria to cause problems at St Andrew’s but if Deeney can affect the game as he has in recent weeks then Birmingham can be confident of making it four out of four.
