Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Cameron John is being chased by three English clubs, according to The Daily Mail's Live Transfer Blog [Wednesday 23rd May, 10:50AM].

John is entering the final year of his contract with Wolves and he is being chased by Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Brighton are eyeing a cut-price deal for the young defender but they face competition from two Championship sides.

Norwich City are interested in signing John and they are joined in the hunt by recently relegated Stoke City.

Stoke appointed Gary Rowett yesterday and John could be his first signing.

Wolves are willing to listen to offers for the 18-year-old and sell him at the right price, despite him impressing for their under-23 side.

John, who joined Wolves from Southend United at the age of 15, has previously been watched by Premier League scouts earlier in the season.

The centre-half is versatile as he can also play at left-back but Wolves are on the verge of completing a £10m deal for Willy Boly, which will push John further down the pecking order.

Nuno Espirito Santo currently has Conor Coady, Danny Batth, Kortney Hause, Ryan Bennett and returning loan players Dominic Iorfa and Ethan Ebanks-Landell at centre-back, meaning John will be allowed to leave.

The Verdict

John's chances of making the first-team at Wolves are looking slim.

There are so many centre-backs blocking his route to the first-team and Nuno is looking to bring in another after he signs Boly.

A move to the Championship could work for the teenager, who is at a vital stage of his career where he has to step out of the comfort zone of youth football and into the real world of the senior game.
