Scunthorpe United have announced that a further three players have committed their futures to the League One-bound club.
Striker Deon Burton, winger Gary McSheffrey and goalkeeper James Severn will sign new contracts at Glanford Park when they return from their respective holidays, while The Iron also say discussions with Andy Dawson over his player-coach role will resume once he returns from his UEFA A Licence coaching course.
Burton, who began his career with Portsmouth and moved to Scunthorpe from Gillingham last summer, scored six goals from 33 appearances in all competitions last season and is a former Jamaica international, having represented his country at the 1998 World Cup.
McSheffrey played 13 times for the Lincolnshire outfit, after joining them in January once his short-term contract with Chesterfield expired, and is best-known for spells with Birmingham City and home town club Coventry City, while former Derby County trainee Severn is currently back-up to first-choice ‘keeper Sam Slocombe.
It takes Scunthorpe’s total of players re-signing for 2014-15 up to seven, with Sean McAllister, Eddie Nolan, Niall Canavan and Terry Hawkridge also penning new deals with Russ Wilcox’s side since 2013-14 climaxed.
