Garry Monk appears to have ticked the first box on his Birmingham City 'to do' list, keep them in the Championship.

Whilst it isn't cut and dried just yet, they're looking safe with Bolton and Barnsley set to battle Burton for the two relegation spots, although a result this weekend would make sure.

From there, Monk surely has a long-term remit of restoring them to the top-flight, a task he'll approach with gusto. He's tasted top-flight management with Swansea and there's little doubt a club the size of Birmingham can match their manager's ambitions.

To get to the top six, or the top two, you need a blend of ability and desire, players who are both committed but also possess that 'something' that elevates them and their team above the rest.

Once the players are in place it is up to the manager to organise, motivate and ultimately mould into winners. That comes later, first comes the recruitment.

Garry Monk will doubtless have a wanted list all of his own that he's studying right now, but on the off chance he read FLW, we've got a couple of suggestions for him.

The 25-year old Nigerian is rumoured to be on their radar and would make a great addition to the side. He's a slick central midfielder with real style and the ability to unlock defences.

He's been plying his trade in Turkey, having moved to Trabzonspor from Lazio in 2016. He's set to star for his country in this summer's World Cup, which means Monk should act sooner, rather than later, to avoid a Dutch auction.

I'm suggesting every manager in the Championship sign Marriott, but with good reason. This boy is a natural goal scorer and whoever wins the race for his signature has the next Charlie Austin on their hands.

He's bullish and determined, he's got that natural instinct for goals and he's still quick and strong too. There's everything to like about the striker, apart perhaps from the £5m plus price tag on his head.

What price do you put on twenty goals a season though, right?

Hoolahan has been linked with Birmingham today and, as much as I thought id was folly at first, I'm beginning to see the value in the move.

A 36-year old is never going to turn in 46 games a season, but he's a proper professional who could help Garry Monk on and off the field. Monk showed how much he rates input by promoting Paul Robinson back into the squad upon arriving at St Andrews, so this move has real value.
