Will Grigg could leave Sunderland this month with Blackpool thought to be leading the race, according to the Northern Echo.

The Northern Ireland international has struggled to find his form since arriving at the Stadium Of Light from Wigan in a £4million deal last January.

Grigg has scored just three times in 26 appearances for the Black Cats this term, leading to criticism from supporters.

With Kyle Lafferty arriving last week and a deal for Antoine Semenyo tipped to be concluded later this week, the 28-year-old could be available for a January departure, according to the Northern Echo.

The report claims that while Swindon Town and Salford City have both contacted Sunderland regarding a move for Grigg, a move to League Two would not be viable for the player or club.

That means that the interest of Blackpool could be the move that is discussed before the end of the transfer window.

The verdict

It seems like a move for Will Grigg would be the best solution for all parties.

For whatever reason, his time with Sunderland just hasn't worked out and that has led to criticism from the fans and a significant drop in confidence for the striker himself.

Whether it's a permanent or a loan move, Grigg needs to get away from the Stadium Of Light and get back to doing what he does best.

For Sunderland there's no time to be patient as they need results now, and that's proven by the urgency in their search to sign more attacking talent this month.
