Forgotten Derby County duo Ikechi Anya and George Thorne will not have a role to play at the club and could be moved on this month.

That's according to Derbyshire Live reporter Steve Nicholson, who revealed that the pair, who are both out of contract in the summer, have little chance of featuring under Phillip Cocu and the Rams will be open to letting them go before the deadline.

"Ikechi Anya has been at the club all season, but has been recovering from a calf injury he suffered in pre-season. George Thorne’s loan at Oxford expired this month, but he could go back out on loan.

"It looks highly unlikely we will see either as part of the squad again. Their contracts are up at the end of the season."

Whilst the focus is on bringing new players in for Cocu, the Dutchman will also want to trim his squad and reducing the wage bill could impact who comes through the door.

Anya hasn't played for the East Midlands outfit since the summer of 2018, whilst Thorne's time at Pride Park has been hit by injury.

The verdict

The harsh reality is that neither of these pair are needed at Derby right now, even though Cocu doesn't have the biggest of squads to choose from.

It should be stressed that Anya and particularly Thorne have had bad luck with injuries in the past which will have been extremely frustrating.

However, it appears their time at Derby is up and if they don't secure a move in the next 11 days they will be off in the summer.
