It has been reported that Brentford have ended their interest in Barnsley attacker Jacob Brown, according to journalist Lyall Thomas.

The 21-year-old's performances for the Tykes this season have caught the eye of a number of clubs, with it being revealed by Alan Nixon on Wednesday that the Bees were keen on pursuing a transfer for the forward.

However, Sky Sports's Lyall Thomas has come out to shut down those rumours, tweeting this significant update on Thursday afternoon:

Brown has been one of Barnsley's bright sparks this season despite their precarious league position. The 21-year-old has a total of eight assists in 23 Championship appearances, ranking him fourth out of all the players in the competition.

QUIZ: Do you know where these 15 ex-Brentford players are playing now?

With Brentford's interest in Jacob Brown looking all but over, it now remains to be seen if the West London club will look to move for any more targets before Friday's 11pm transfer deadline.

The Bees have made just one signing so far in January, with forward Halil Dervisoglu joining the club from Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam for  a fee of £2.7 million.

Brentford currently sit in 5th place in the Championship table, with 47 points from their 29 league games.

The Verdict

With Brentford's pursuit of Jacob Brown at an end, it does not look likely that the club will be pursuing any further deals this January, although anything can happen.

It was reported yesterday by BBC Sheffield's Andy Giddings that three other Championship clubs were keen on Brown's signature.

They will now be in a better position to land their man following this significant update from the Brentford camp.
