Norwich City boss Dean Smith has admitted that he doesn't believe their is a recall option inserted into the loan deal which took Jordan Hugill to West Bromwich Albion.

The target man has greatly struggled for game time at the Hawthorns since making the move to the Black Country over the summer and as a result there has since been talk over whether he could make an early return to Carrow Road.

Smith of course is only just getting his feet under the table after taking on the top job with the Canaries following the sacking of Daniel Farke and could well be open to bringing the striker back to boost his squad options.

However speaking recently about the player, the Norwich boss was quick to admit that he doesn't think there is an option for Hugill to be recalled early:

"I don't believe there is a recall option.

"I'm going to be speaking to Jordan over the next 24 hours to see how he is finding it there.

"I don't believe there's a release clause but I'll have a chat and see how he is."

Hugill has made 20 Sky Bet Championship appearances for Albion this season but has only found the back of the net on one occasion.

His contract with Norwich is due to expire in the summer of 2023.

The Verdict

This is a win-win situation for the Baggies as it seems they now have a clear run at keeping a player that can provide them with good back up in difficult moments.

The signing of Daryl Dike has almost certainly seen Hugill fall even further down the pecking order at the Hawthorns but at the same time it is likely he will get some game time during this congested run of fixtures.

For one reason or another he just doesn't fit into how West Brom want to play their football and that is ultimately why he has struggled to hit the ground running.

Whether he stays put for the rest of the season is anyone's guess after Smith's latest admission.
