A decision is yet to be made over the loan of Ian Poveda to Blackburn Rovers from his parent club Leeds United, as per a recent report by the Lancashire Telegraph.

The promising young winger recently underwent surgery after a scan revealed that he has fractured his fibula alongside also sustaining ankle ligament damage, with the injury occurring in Rovers' recent game against Bristol City.

Poveda originally arrived at Ewood Park over the summer and was expected to remain with the Sky Bet Championship side until the end of the campaign after starting well in his first eight appearances.

With the deal having had a January break clause written into it in the first place, Leeds may well take the opportunity to recall the player at the turn of the new year, especially as the injury is set to keep Poveda sidelined for a sustained period.

However it has been stressed that both clubs are yet to come to an agreement over the winger as contract continues between all parties involved.

Poveda has racked up one goal and two assists for Rovers so far this season.

The Verdict

It feels highly doubtful that Poveda will play for Blackburn again this season, however it is a big step forward that he has had the required surgery.

Blackburn will now be assessing their options with the January transfer window in mind and could well swoop into the market to find a direct replacement for the winger.

With finances still on the tight side at the Lancashire club, another loan or perhaps even a free agent signing could be on the agenda.

Thankfully for Tony Mowbray, the loss of Poveda hasn't been too badly felt by the squad as a whole, who continue to perform well as a collective this term in the league.
