Transfer target makes admission that may anger Reading fans

Yoann Barbet has been a transfer target for Reading in the January transfer window but he was part of the Brentford side that helped deepen the Royals’ recent slump on Saturday.

The Bees came to the Madejski Stadium and emerged with a 1-0 win, thanks to Lasse Vibe’s second-half goal and Barbet made a late goal-line clearance that helped preserve the victory.

He has also helped pile the misery further on Jaap Stam’s struggling team by flatly refusing to join them from Dean Smith’s side, who may fancy themselves to make a late bid for the play-offs, in the same way that their London rivals Fulham did last season.

Barbet even went as far as to say that there was no point in him leaving to move down the table and join Reading.

He told the Reading Chronicle: “I’m playing every game so I don’t see any point for me to move to any team at the moment. I don’t see a lot of good points for me to move at this moment to Reading.

“It’s always nice to have some club to buy you but I’m just focused on Brentford. We are doing a really great job at the moment.

“I’m playing all the games, so it doesn’t disturb me. I just focus on my game and I try and do my best to win the game. I’m pleased to be playing for Brentford and enjoying my time.”

The Verdict

Barbet’s point is valid. Brentford are chasing the Premier League, while Reading don’t know where their next win is coming from and Barbet saw their struggles first hand at the weekend.

It is rare to see a player who is so candid about refusing a move to somewhere else but the emphatic nature of Barbet’s message is sure to please Brentford fans who are only looking up the league and not down.
