Cardiff City have joined the race to sign Manchester United midfielder James Garner on loan, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old has made an impact under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, making six first-team appearances for United including three matches in the Europa League.

The midfielder has also featured once in the Premier League, and has also been a key player for the Red Devils' under-21 side.

Have Cardiff City done these 15 things in the last 10 years?

But in order to further his development, it has been claimed that Garner will be allowed to leave Old Trafford on loan next season.

Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City have been recently linked with Garner as per The Sun, but now, the Daily Mail claim that Cardiff City are also interested in signing the homegrown midfielder on loan.

A number of young players have all been given their first-team chance under Solskjaer this term, but a move to the EFL has often proved to be influential for a host of top-flight youngsters in recent seasons.

Cardiff will be hoping to break into the play-off places should the 2019/20 campaign continue, with Neil Harris' side sitting ninth in the Championship table and only two points off sixth.

The Verdict

Garner is a class act and you don't just play for Manchester United for nothing.

He looks fantastic on the ball and his footballing brain is great, but a loan move could be the making of him and do him the world of good.

Cardiff need depth in their midfield, and if they remain in the Championship next season, it would be a real coup to lure him to South Wales.
