Nottingham Forest are at risk of losing young defender Danny Preston, with the full-back reportedly attracting transfer interest.

Preston - who is yet to make a first-team appearance for Forest - joined Grimsby Town on a season-long loan deal back in September.

The 20-year-old has since been a key player for Ian Holloway's side, making 20 appearances for the Mariners in all competitions this season.

The full-back has earned rave reviews, but according to Daniel Taylor of the Athletic, Forest are at risk of losing the young defender.

He claims that that "various" EFL clubs are keen on signing Preston, with his contract at the City Ground set to expire at the end of the season.

Forest currently have three senior left-backs ahead of Preston in the pecking order, with Yuri Ribeiro, Gaetan Bong and Nicholas Ioannou all part of Chris Hughton's plans.

Tyler Blackett also joined in the summer and is currently out injured, but he will also add competition to the left-back position once he is back fit.

The Verdict

It wouldn't be a surprise to see Preston leave Forest at the end of the season, unfortunately.

He's really benefiting from a loan spell in League Two with Grimsby, but I can't see him being part of the first-team picture anytime soon.

He needs regular game time after an impressive loan spell away, but whether that arrives on Trentside or not is unlikely.
