Hull City's turnaround in the Sky Bet Championship last season was hugely impressive, and Nigel Adkins will be hoping for bigger and better things from his team next time around.

The Tigers started the season off in dismal fashion, winning just two of their opening 14 league games with the pressure starting to pile on the former Southampton boss.

But a run of six straight league wins in December certainly turned their fortunes around, with Adkins' side starting to look like play-off contenders out of nowhere.

Ultimately, they missed out on the play-offs after a disappointing run of form towards the end of the campaign, but it's fair to say that Adkins deserves credit for the way he steered the ship last term.

Hull's off-field and financial problems have been well-documented over the last few years, especially after being relegated from the Premier League, so the manager has definitely worked wonders under limited resources.

This summer, he will find it hard to keep hold of his key players - Fraizer Campbell could be set to leave on a free transfer, with the club opting against triggering a contract extension due to financial issues.

But one major transfer deal in the United Kingdom could be about to turn Hull's fortunes around once more, with Premier League champions Manchester City reportedly eyeing up a world-record move for Leicester's Harry Maguire, which would surpass Liverpool's £75million move for Virgil Van Dijk.

This would mean that, according to reports, the Tigers would be entitled to a large windfall, having agreed a 15% sell-on clause with the Foxes when letting the England international leave for the King Power Stadium.

Sell-on clauses mean next to nothing for clubs nowadays, but receiving up to £10million would be beneficial for a club like Hull, who will look to strengthen their squad to go one step further next season.

Effectively, it would be like selling a key player, without even having to sell a player. A practically free injection of cash for a player that now means nothing to those at the KCOM Stadium.

This would allow Adkins to bring in some fresh talent in the summer, as well as keeping the likes of Campbell who has been linked with moves away.
