Transfer claim suggests Aston Villa must go up to keep this key star

Aston Villa could be in trouble in the summer window if they do not go up at the end of this season – according to a report in the Mirror.

The Villans remain in the hunt for the automatic promotion places but probably know that the play-offs is their more likely method of going up this year.

Certainly, that could mean that the club does not return to the Premier League for next season and, in such an event, some of their key players may have offers come in with Jack Grealish apparently attracting interest from Leicester.

The attacking midfielder has been superb this season for the Villans with him underlining just why he’s got the potential to be a Premier League star and England international.

If Villa don’t go up, though, the Foxes will look to pounce with a figure of £20m being touted in the report.

The Verdict

Let’s be honest, Villa are the bigger club but this potential story highlights how harmful staying in the Championship past this season could be.

We’ve now seen a number of players at the club showing form good enough for the top flight and if they do not go up those that are in the Premier League are going to be swirling.

If Leicester make Europe their bargaining position will be even stronger too.
