AFC Bournemouth winger Arnaut Danjuma is set to depart the Cherries, with a fee agreed with La Liga outfit Villarreal for his services, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Dutchman will undergo a medical in Spain ahead of a £20 million move to the UEFA Europa League winners after scoring 17 goals in 35 Championship matches last season.

Danjuma has been linked with many clubs over the summer, including Leicester City and Liverpool, however he has opted to move abroad for a shot at Champions League football.

The 24-year-old has not played a single minute of football so far this season for Scott Parker's side but it was reported at the end of July that he was close to returning to action at Dean Court.

That failed to transpire though in Bournemouth's three matches so far this season in all competitions, with youngster Jaidon Anthony taking his place in the line-up.

Having signed Danjuma from Club Brugge in the summer of 2019 for £13.7 million, the Cherries are set to make a profit on their star man as he heads to the east coast of Spain.

The Verdict

Considering they didn't manage to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, it's no great surprise to see Danjuma depart.

He was always going to attract mass attention due to his scoring record and the manner in which he took his chances last season - he could score long range shots from outside the box but also power through and score one-on-ones.

Danjuma has both pace and power and he deserves a shot at European football despite not having much top flight experience - the season in the Championship will have done him wonders though and he's clearly developed at a rapid rate of knots.

The Dutchman will be a big miss at Dean Court but Parker will no doubt have the funds to replace him - and some squad depth is definitely needed immediately with a whole host of youth players having to make the step up due to injury and illness right now.
