Tottenham are finally expected to seal the signing of Ryan Sessegnon today, with the two clubs close to agreeing a fee for the left-sided player.
The 19-year-old established himself as one of the most exciting youngsters in the country with his form in the Championship two years ago, however he struggled to replicate that in the Premier League last season, managing just two goals in 35 games.
Despite that, Mauricio Pochettino has been keen on bringing Sessegnon to north London as he looks to add to his squad.
And, there finally appears to be a breakthrough on that front, with Sky Sports claiming that a deal is set to go through before the 5pm deadline this evening.
Spurs fans may have to wait for the teenager to make his debut though as his pre-season has been disrupted by a hamstring injury that meant he missed the Cottagers 1-0 opening day defeat to Barnsley in the Championship, whilst he returned late anyway after going away with England U21s this summer.
It has been reported that the Champions League finalists will pay up to £25m for Sessegnon.
This isn’t an update that will surprise many people as it has seemed inevitable that the Fulham youngster would end up at Spurs.
In truth, it’s a deal that suits all parties as well. Firstly, the Cottagers are getting a good fee for the player and it will help balance the books after relegation.
Meanwhile, from Sessegnon’s perspective, the chance to work with Pochettino and join a club like Spurs is going to be a massive appeal.
The Fulham fans will hope the funds brought in can be used to bring in a few deadline day deals as well, with Scott Parker’s defence looking weak right now.
