Tottenham are making progress in their bid to sign Leeds' Jack Clarke, according to Football Insider.

The Champions League runners-up are believed to be preparing an offer of a five-year contract that would see a huge increase in wages for the 18-year-old.

This follows the news yesterday that Spurs made an opening bid of a 'significant amount' for Clarke, although Football Insider report it fell below Leeds' asking price of £20m.

Spurs' proposed contract offer could be added incentive for Clarke to seek a move away.

He currently has two years left on his current deal, but is believed to be one of the club's lowest earners as he is still on his first professional contract.

With Tottenham and Leeds yet to agree on a price, this contact from Spurs could twist the arm of the Yorkshire club, and force them into selling a player who no longer wants to be at the club.

The Verdict

This is bad news for Leeds fans, and sure to frustrate them as it looks like yet another academy product will be on his way to a Premier League side.

The only consolation from this proposed deal was that Leeds could get their hands on £20m, but if this proposed contract causes Clarke to demand a move then the club may have to settle for less.

From Clarke's perspective, it would be a difficult contract to ignore, and the move as a whole is very appealing as he could get the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the country and for one of the best managers in the world.

It looks likely that he will leave, but Leeds still have many weeks to try and get Spurs or another club to meet their £20m evaluation, so they shouldn't lower their demands.
