Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a £10m move for West Bromwich Albion defender Nathan Ferguson and have made him their top transfer target to solve their right-back problem, according to The Sun.

The 19-year-old has been one of the standout players for West Brom this season and has played a key role in the Baggies strong start to the campaign under Slaven Bilic - making eleven appearances in the Championship.

Ferguson has been with West Brom since the age of eight and has progressed through the ranks at The Hawthorns. After making his first-team debut in August, the highly-rated defender has impressed at both left-back and right-back for Albion this season.

And, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has made signing a new right-back his top priority - after Kieran Trippier left the club to join Atletico Madrid in the summer - and his scouts have been left raving by Ferguson's performances so far this season.

Spurs see Ferguson as someone who is capable of making the step up to the Premier League and are thought to be lining up a £10m move for him ahead of the January transfer window.

In recent reports are to be believed, Crystal Palace are also interested in signing Ferguson in January, but Albion are determined to keep hold of the defender and are currently in talks with his representatives over a new long-term contract for him.

The Verdict

Ferguson is a very talented footballer. He's a great defender, but he's also very skilled on the ball and good going forward. He's got so much potential and he'll continue to improve as he gains more experience.

He's got the potential to play at a higher level and there's every chance that he could be tempted by a move to the Premier League, but it would be a major blow for West Brom to lose him.

The Baggies must do everything they can to get him tied down to a new long-term contract, as he could have a very big role to play in their promotion push under Bilic this season.
