Tottenham Hotspur progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup after securing a 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough.

It was an excellent start for Spurs who took the lead after three minutes through Giovani Lo Celso.

That lead was doubled by Erik Lamela who kick-started a dominant first half from the hosts.

Middlesbrough looked to play their way back into the game in the second half, and got their reward as George Saville clawed one back late on, but the Premier league side held on to secure the win.

Here's how we rated Jose Mourinho's side.

Paulo Gazzaniga – 7

Made an excellent save to deny Lukas Nmecha but didn't have a huge amount to do after that.

Japhet Tanganga – 7

Provided a constant attacking threat down the right flank and could have got on the scoresheet had his finishing been better.

Davinson Sanchez – 5

Made several errors throughout the game which nearly proved costly.

Jan Vertonghen – 6

Won the physical battle with Middlesbrough’s attackers for the most part.

Ryan Sessegnon – 7

Looked lively coming in off the left flank. Handled the threat of Djed Spence well.

Eric Dier – 6

Swept up play well. Nullified any threat from Boro while allowing his teammates to take care of the offensive threat.

Harry Winks – 7

Set Spurs on their way as he played a simple but effective game from deep.

Giovani Lo Celso – 9

Got off to the perfect start with a fine finish early on. A really clinical performance from a player of undoubted clash

Christian Eriksen – 8

Had a good game as he pressed and probed the Middlesbrough defence.

Lucas Moura – 8

Caused lots of problems as he dropped deep from attack. Used his pace and trickery to really unsettle the defence.

Erik Lamela – 8

Scored an excellent goal to double Spurs’ lead. Linked up very well with Lo Celso to carve open the defence.

Substitutes

Son Heung-min - 6

Made an immediate impact as he stretched play and used his pace and power to cause more problems for Middlesbrough.

Dele Alli - N/A

Didn't have a huge amount of time to make an impact.
