Tottenham Hotspur have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Jack Grealish this summer after making a bid for the Aston Villa star.

Both Spurs and Chelsea, top-six Premier League clubs, have shown an interest in taking Grealish off Aston Villa’s hands this summer, with Spurs edging ahead of their London rivals.

Sky Sports are reporting that Spurs have opened the bidding for Grealish with an offer of £15m, whilst Chelsea continue to mull over a move for the 22-year-old.

Other Premier League clubs including Fulham and Leicester City are also interested, but it seems Spurs have made the first move to land the highly-rated midfielder.

Grealish spearheaded Villa’s push for promotion during the second-half of the 2017/18 campaign, playing an influential role as Steve Bruce’s side finish fourth and reached the play-off final.

The midfielder made 30 appearances in the Championship and play-offs last season, scoring three goals and registering a further six assists.

Despite Spurs making the first move with a reported £15m bid, Villa value the youngster at double that figure, with the Sky Bet Championship outfit keen to not lose the defender at a cut-price.

The Verdict

Spurs might have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Grealish by opening the bidding, but there will still be a long way to go in the race to sign the 22-year-old.

A £15m bid will fall way short of where Villa value Grealish and it would be a surprise to see the bid accepted.

This has the potential to be one of the summer’s transfer sagas.
