Ipswich Town are in the hunt for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Much of the transfer talk around the youngster has been focused on a possible switch to Swansea City, but Paul Hurst is seemingly keen on him bolstering his defence at Portman Road after a tough start to the Championship season.

They're without a win in three matches and have under two weeks to add loan players to the squad before the window shuts. Whilst the deadline for permanent deals passed with little Championship involvement, this second deadline is likely to be far busier.

20-year old Carter-Vickers is an American international, despite being born in Southend. He's represented the US at U18, U20 and U23 level, as well as appearing four times for the senior side. He earned a call up after Spurs development squad beat the US U17 side and those in charge learned of his eligibility for an American passport.

He's yet to make a Premier League appearance for Spurs, but he might favour a switch to Portman Road after spending time on loan there last season. He's also featured for Sheffield United in another loan spell.

The Verdict

It does seem that Carter-Vickers is on his way to Swansea, but will that link with Ipswich prove to be important? Also, Portman Road is much closer to London than South Wales and that might be another mitigating factor in any decision.

If he does join up with Paul Hurst, he could be an integral part of the squad, given his Championship and international experience.
