Tottenham Hotspur are not fearful that their move for Djed Spence will be hijacked at this stage.

Speaking on The Last Word on YouTube, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare claimed that Spurs are confident that the move will eventually be completed.

It was revealed by Football League World that Nottingham Forest were waiting in the wings to make a swoop for the player should any agreement between Middlesbrough and the North London club collapse.

However, the Spurs reporter has shared that the Premier League outfit believe that an agreement will come with Boro before the end of the window.

It is believed that the player’s delayed summer break due to playing for the England U21 side has had a knock-on effect on Spurs’ need to get the deal done.

But Spence’s priority is a move to Tottenham, which has given the club great confidence that the deal will happen this summer.

“I do think it will get done eventually, it’s worth remembering as well that even though it seems to have gone on for ages it’s only late June, he’s been on holiday and he’s played for the England U21s, so that has delayed it,” said Eccleshare, via HITC.

“He wants to go to Spurs so that puts Tottenham in a strong position because I feel that they’re less fearful that anyone will come in and scupper that deal.

“He wants it to be done, Spurs want it to be done, Middlesbrough want to make the sale and they just want the appropriate fee for him. I do still think that one will happen.”

Spence made a name for himself last season with his performances for Nottingham Forest while on loan from the Riverside.

He played a crucial role in Steve Cooper’s side as they earned promotion from the Championship.

But the 22-year old is now seeking a move to a top flight side, with Boro reportedly holding out for a minimum agreement of £15 million.

The Verdict

While this agreement is taking a while to come to, it is still a deal that feels somewhat inevitable.

Given Boro are clearly open to a sale and Spurs are his desired next destination, it is hard to imagine this one going south at any point.

It will be an exciting next step in his career and a huge leap up in level that will be required from him.

But getting to play Champions League football, alongside top stars like Hueng-Min Son and Harry Kane, as well as being managed by Antonio Conte, makes it a no-brainer decision given the chance that’s available for Spence.
