Tottenham Hotspur could be set to pip Liverpool to Burnley striker Danny Ings, reports The Independent.
Now Sky Sports are suggesting that Spurs are ready to offer the Clarets £12 million for the striker – despite Ings being out-of-contract at the end of June. The White Hart Lane outfit are hoping an early bid will see them sign the player ahead of their rivals.
According to The Independent, any club that sign Ings would have to pay between £5-6m because he under the age of 24 and Burnley have offered the striker a new contract in order to qualify for compensation under Premier League regulations.
The 22-year-old, who has been at Turf Moor for four years, confirmed in the club’s match-day programme that he would be leaving at the end of the season after hitting 11 goals in 35 Premier League appearances.
Liverpool have been linked with the former Bournemouth striker for some time. The Reds hierarchy had identified Ings as a transfer target and the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have backed manager Brendan Rodgers to push ahead for the move.
But Spurs are hoping to muscle in and steal the striker from under the noses of the Anfield club and make a double swoop with Burnley teammate Kieran Trippier also joining Ings at White Hart Lane.
