Tottenham Hotspur are back in the race to sign Charlie Austin, as they see him as a viable choice if their pursuit of Saido Berahino fails, according to the Evening Standard.

Spurs are keen on a deal for Austin

Austin has been heavily linked with Premier League sides all summer since Queens Park Rangers were relegated last season and it has been reported that Spurs have re-joined the race for the 26-year old.

Spurs see Austin as their back-up plan, if they fail to land Berahino, who West Bromwich Albion want for a whopping £25 million for and Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace is not willing to budge on their valuation for the player.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs supremo Daniel Levy is ready to pull out of the deal for the West Brom hitman and prepare a bid for Austin, who would cost around £15 million, as they look for a strike partner for Harry Kane.

Austin, who scored 18 Premier League goals last year, has already hit the back of the net four times, in as many Championship games this season.

The ex-Poole Town striker is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League so it is no surprise to see a top six club like Tottenham look into the services of the forward – however, it remains to be seen whether he can replicate the sort of form he has showcased at a large club like Spurs.

QPR fans….. What do you make of this news? Will Austin actually leave in this window? Where will he go? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
