Doncaster Rovers have completed the signing of Tottenham Hostpur forward Kazaiah Sterling on a loan deal, the club has confirmed.

The 20-year-old will spend the remainder of the 2019/20 season on loan with Darren Moore's side, following his temporary stint at Sunderland in the second half of last term.

Sterling impressed in Tottenham's development side during the early part of last season which led to him making his debut for the club against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup, before he was shipped out on his first loan spell.

The forward has been capped for England at Under-17 and Under-18 level, and Rovers boss Darren Moore said he was very excited about the prospect of Sterling plying his trade at the Keepmoat Stadium this term.

"Kazaiah is a forward who is really highly-rated at Spurs, they see him as a first-team player for them very soon and he just needs more experience at senior level," Moore told Doncaster's club website.

“We have had to be patient on this signing because his parent club see him as having a big role for them, we respect that but believe he can make a real impact for us this coming season.”

The verdict

This could be a really exciting signing for Doncaster, particularly seeing as Moore seems very pleased to have finally added the forward to his side's ranks.

The fact Sterling was handed his senior debut by Mauricio Pochettino reflects how well thought of he is by the North London side, and I think he could really impress if given ample opportunity.

He only made eight appearances during his loan spell with Sunderland last term, so he was never really allowed to show what he could do in a side that could afford little margin for error as they challenged for promotion.

I hope Sterling is granted the freedom to play regularly for Rovers, and I'm sure he will as the club looks to fill the goalscoring void left by John Marquis and Mallik Wilks following their departures over the summer.
