Burton Albion are set to complete the loan signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jack Roles, according to The Athletic's Charlie Eccleshare.

Burton will be hoping to have a positive season in League One under the stewardship of Jake Buxton, with the former Derby centre-half looking to strengthen his squad even further.

Eight new players have arrived at the Pirelli Stadium this transfer window, with the Brewers set to complete their ninth signing of the summer.

QUIZ: Can you name these 15 ex-Burton Albion strikers?

According to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jack Roles is set to move on loan to the League One side, who finished 12th in the league standings last term.

Roles spent last season on loan in League Two with Cambridge United, gaining valuable first-team experience as Mark Bonner's side finished 16th.

Roles, an attacking midfielder, scored five goals in 25 appearances for United, playing a key role in the U's midfield and seemingly adapting to life in League Two well.

The 21-year-old is said to have impressed for Spurs' Under-23 side in the early stages of this season, but now looks set to move on loan to the EFL once again.

The Verdict

This is a great move for both parties.

Roles is obviously nowhere near Jose Mourinho's first-team plans at the moment, and he needs to get out on loan and gain some valuable experience of first-team football.

Burton have made some decent signings this summer and look set to have a good season in League One, and after a decent campaign in League Two, it's the right step for Roles to take.
