Middlesbrough star Ben Gibson is one of the options for Tottenham Hotspur if they can flog Kevin Wimmer for £20m, according to The Mirror.

Tottenham Hotspur are planning to offload centre-back Kevin Wimmer this summer with Southampton and a number of Bundesliga clubs chasing the 24-year-old.

The Austrian international has had to settle for a bit part role in this Spurs team over the past two seasons, owing to the success of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen at the heart of defence.

Tottenham are now ready to get rid of Wimmer and bring in an English replacement.

Two names have caught their attention.

The first is Swansea City's Alfie Mawson, who has starred for the Swans in the Premier League and for England under-21s.

The free scoring centre-half only joined the Welsh outfit from Barnsley last year but he is a man in-demand after showing his credentials during their survival campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur will also consider moving for Ben Gibson.

The 24-year-old was the standout performer for Middlesbrough despite his boyhood club suffering relegation to the Championship.

His performances were so impressive that he has earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad, although the former England under-21 man is yet to make his senior bow.

With Leicester City, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion also loitering, Spurs might need to move quickly to wrap up a deal for in-demand Boro star Ben Gibson this summer.
