Tottenham Hotspur believe they can still sign Jack Grealish for £20m despite Aston Villa's recent takeover, according to a report by The Mirror.

Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Grealish and wants him to follow in the footsteps of Dele Alli, being plucked from the Football League and going on to star for Tottenham's first-team.

Aston Villa were hit with a financial crisis earlier this summer and it looked like their star players would have to be sold to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

But after Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens completed a takeover at Villa, they are no longer in a position where they have to sell, although there are still financial concerns.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wanted to take advantage of Aston Villa's financial woes but he has now entered negotiations for Grealish and he is not willing to pay more than £20m for his man.

The 22-year-old impressed for the Villans last season, netting three times and adding six assists for team-mates.

Grealish is thought to be tempted by a move to Spurs, despite Aston Villa being his boyhood club.

The Verdict

If Aston Villa do not need to sell, they should hold firm and refuse any bids below £20m for Grealish.

I am sure that the local lad will not force a move away from Villa Park if he is wanted as Steve Bruce's star man next term.

The England under-21 international would be a great fit for Spurs and a shrewd long-term addition to their squad.
