Tottenham are the latest club to take an interest in Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Having come through the academy ranks at Sunderland, Neil has already established himself as a key figure in the Black Cats' first-team.

The 20-year-old has made 54 appearances in all competitions for the League One club, scoring four goals and providing eight assists in that time.

Football League World previously revealed that the likes of Aston Villa, Brighton, Wolves and Leeds are taking an interest in the midfielder, and it now seems as though interest is growing.

According to this latest update, both Tottenham and Crystal Palace have joined the list of Premier League sides to take an interest in signing the young midfielder.

It is also thought that there is concern around Sunderland that Neil could leave the club this summer, having struggled to make as much of an impact since the appointment of Alex Neil as manager.

That is despite the fact that the midfielder only signed a new long term contract with the club earlier this season, securing his future at the Stadium of Light until the end of the 2024/25 season.

The Verdict

This will surely be something of a concern for those of a Sunderland persuasion.

Neil is a hugely promising young player with the potential to be a big asset to the club for many years to come, so it would be a blow to lose him at such an early stage of his career.

However, Premier League sides such as Tottenham, will have the financial strength to put in the type of offer for the midfielder, that the Black Cats may find hard to refuse.

As a result, it could be a nervous few months for Sunderland with regards to Neil's future, although it should be noted this would be a big step up for the midfielder, meaning it could be hard for him to immediately establish himself in the first-team of a club such as Spurs.
