Charlton are interested in signing Troy Parrott from Tottenham, according to The Independent.

It is likely they will make a loan move for the 17-year-old, who is still yet to play a game at professional level.

However, in 25 games for the youth team last year the striker netted 19 times, which shows he has an eye for goal and could prove a handful in the Championship.

The Addicks have brought in two forwards this summer to support Lyle Taylor in Macauley Bonne and Chuks Aneke, and given Lee Bowyer went with one upfront at the weekend there may be limited opportunities for Parrott.

There are positives which make the Irishman stand out though, he works tirelessly upfront and his technical ability makes him a natural finisher, meaning he could be well-suited to being an impact sub.

Charlton would be a great opportunity for him to learn from an experienced striker like Lyle Taylor. Plus, Bowyer has already proved he is good at working with young players having improved Joe Aribo, so he could do the same with Parrott.

The Verdict

This is an interesting move and Parrott could prove to be an excellent capture, but you do worry about how much game time he is likely to get given Charlton's strength in that area.

That worry over game time could also lead Spurs to turn down Charlton and instead choose to develop him within the club, which is a method preferred by Mauricio Pochettino - and it has worked for Parrott thus far.

Despite that, a Championship loan would be good and it would be exciting to see how he copes, as there are not many young goalscorers quite like him at his age and he has serious potential.
