Fulham have stepped up their pursuit for a left-back in the January transfer window, paving the way for youngster Ryan Sessegnon to move to either Tottenham or Manchester United in the winter window.

The Sun reports that boss Slavisa Jokanovic is sounding out potential targets, with strong suggestions that the Premier League pair are ready to battle over the 17-year-old’s signature.

Sessegnon has been a revelation since breaking into the first-team set-up at Craven Cottage last season, with the England youth international adapting to professional football with consummate ease.

Deployed on either the left side of defence or on the left wing, Sessegnon has played beyond his years, scoring four goals and providing a further two assists this semester as Jokanovic’s side chase down a playoff spot.

Sessegnon finished joint top-scorer at the European U-19 Championships in the summer as England won the prestigious tournament for the first time, and his hat-trick against Sheffield United earlier in the season was the first by a 17-year-old in the top four tiers of English football since Dele Alli’s effort for MK Dons back in 2014.

The Verdict

This is the clearest indication yet that Sessegnon could be on the move in the near future.

The player is too good for this level, and has the potential to play an immediate role in the first-team set-up of a Premier League top-six side.

Pacy and with an eye for goal, some have compared the youngster with former Tottenham star Gareth Bale, who was converted from the left-side of defence to a winger whilst at White Hart Lane, going on to become a global superstar with Real Madrid.

Spurs are resigned to losing Danny Rose whereas United are looking to move on Luke Shaw, with the left-back berth at both clubs set to be up for grabs in the next few months.
