Portsmouth were knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal last night and many fans of the South Coast club have been left frustrated by the performance of midfielder Gareth Evans.

With Pompey fighting for League One promotion, manager Kenny Jackett made six changes for the Fifth Round tie at Fratton Park.

Jackett's side put up some early defiance but went behind in the fourth minute of first-half injury time when Sokratis Papastathopoulos lashed in a near-post volley.

Eddie Nketiah forced the ball into the net from close range for Arsenal's second six minutes after the break and from that point, the Gunners never looked like surrendering their lead.

It was a respectable performance from the League One side, who put in a particularly impressive showing in the first half.

However, it was far from Evans' finest performance in a Pompey shirt.

The 31-year-old, who took the captain's armband, struggled to keep up with the pace of the game, making just 28 touches and connecting with only 56% of his passes, and went anonymous for long spells.

Evans has been an excellent servant for the club, making over 200 appearances and helping them climb out of League Two, but he doesn't seem to be a popular man amongst Pompey fans after last night's showing.
