It was announced today that Sunderland had lost their appeal against the red card given to Max Power for a rash tackle, during Saturday's match with Oxford United and it has not gone down well. 

The anger amongst fans and manager alike was magnified when it was also revealed that Power would not be allowed to play in Tuesday night's Checkatrade Trophy match against Stoke City. But it would not count towards the three-match ban.

Power received his marching orders in the 19th minute of the match at the Stadium of Light after recklessly lunging in Oxford's Marcus Browne, just three minutes after Ricky Holmes had given the visitors the lead.

Charlie Wyke came on to make his debut after half-time and hauled Ross's side level just seven minutes later as he flicked home Lynden Gooch's effort on goal.

The former Wigan man will, therefore, miss League One matches against Fleetwood Town, Burton Albion and Rochdale.
