Torquay United are said to be keen on re-signing striker Jamie Reid from Mansfield Town this summer, as per a recent report by The 72.

The 26-year-old frontman previously left Plainmoor only 13 months ago as he signed for the Stags on a free transfer and has since struggled to hit the back of the net on a regular basis in Sky Bet League Two.

A former Northern Ireland youth international, Reid only notched up seven goals in 45 games for Mansfield last term and could well be tempted by a move back down south to link up with the Gulls once more.

Torquay lost their National League play-off final to Hartlepool United in dramatic circumstances last season and are now seeking to bring in new recruits to strengthen their attacking options moving forwards.

Reid previously hit 78 goals in 144 games for the Gulls and would surely be welcomed back with open arms by the club's fans if he does indeed decide to depart Mansfield in the near future.

The Verdict

Mansfield may well be open to letting Reid leave the club this summer as he hasn't made as good an impact as many would've liked since he moved to Field Mill last year.

It's clear that he still has a strong affiliation with Torquay United and surely the player himself would be open to returning to a club where he did so well previously.

A fee would probably have to be negotiated between the two sides and it could well be the many sticking point over this potential transfer taking place.

Whether the Gulls have the cash to bring in their former player remains to be seen as I cannot see the Stags just letting him leave for nothing after only signing him themselves in July of last year.

Reid will certainly have a big decision to make if Torquay firm up their interest.
