Marcelo Bielsa has really shaken things up since taking the helm at Leeds United and he had no qualms about telling a player he needed to lose weight, as reported in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

For 27-year-old defender Luke Ayling that meant losing 4 kilos, as Bielsa looked to create the team of athletes he wanted, with the player claiming “I’m the fittest, the skinniest, the leanest I’ve been.”

Here our team give their thoughts on Bielsa's methods....

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

This was probably down to the running and the foundation of fitness work Marcelo Bielsa demanded from his players to adopt the frenetic system the Argentinian likes to deploy.

It has worked in Luke Ayling's favour, however, with his performances this season.

He is the fittest he has ever been and that has translated onto the pitch with his stamina in games at such a high intensity.

Gary Hutchinson

Players need to be fit, there’s nothing wrong with that.

Were they unfit last season, that is the big question?

Where does a Championship footballer find 4 kilos to lose?

It says more about previous standards than current ones.

George Harbey

It’s not often you see a foreign manager come in to a club and call the shots straight away - so fair play to Bielsa for coming in and demanding hard work of his players.

Fair play to Ayling as well - he’s obviously worked incredibly hard in pre season as his performances this season for Leeds have been second to one.

Top stuff all round.
