Portsmouth progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup as they thrashed Championship Barnsley 4-2 at Fratton Park.

Kenny Jackett's side have been in impressive form since the turn of the year, and continued that on Saturday afternoon against opposition in the tier above them.

Pompey took the lead on the day through Ben Close, which was soon doubled shortly before half-time as John Marquis fired home.

Cauley Woodrow pulled a goal back for the visitors with a well-struck effort, but Pompey rallied from then on.

Ronan Curtis and Christian Burgess also found the back of the Barnsley net in the second-half, before Conor Chaplin netted a late consolation for the Tykes who bowed out of the competition in disappointing fashion.

Portsmouth will be hoping they can build on this strong performance when they return to league action against Lincoln City . on Tuesday.
