Top-flight side planning late bid for Preston North End striker

Crystal Palace are considering a late swoop for Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill, according to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas on Twitter.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson is an admirer of the 25-year-old, and is keen to add the forward to his side before the transfer window closes tomorrow evening.

Hugill shot to fame last season after bagging twelve league goals as the Lilywhites secured a comfortable top half finish, with a whole host of clubs linked with the Middlesbrough-born man over the summer.

Summer appointed Preston boss Alex Neil fought hard and held onto his man, but after scoring eight times in twenty-six league starts this year, the former Norwich City manager may struggle to hold onto the talismanic forward in the wake of Premier League interest.

The Verdict

Hugill has proven this year that he was no one season wonder, and Premier League clubs now appear willing to cement the interest shown in the player in the summer with serious bids.

The player would be a solid fit at Selhurst Park, with the creative talents of the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend likely to benefit the former non-league man.

Hugill has been sensational for the Lilywhites over the past eighteen months, but if a big money offer were to materialise, Neil would struggle to turn a large fee down.
