Charlton Athletic are currently in the midst of an automatic promotion push in League One, currently sat in fourth place but just three points behind second-placed Luton Town.

Fans will be quietly confident that this could be the season they return to the second-tier but they will need to play the January transfer window well in order to achieve that.

But a big blow may be just around the corner with Premier League Huddersfield Town reportedly opening talks with the club over a move for striker Karlan Grant.

Grant has scored 14 League One goals in 28 appearances for the Addicks this season becoming one of the Football League's most highly-rated prospects in the process.

However, with his contract set to expire in the summer and with no new deal yet to be agreed, Huddersfield will be confident of landing the striker with Charlton possibly tempted to cash in now rather than risk losing him for nothing in June.

So, could the youngster make the step up to the Premier League?

We discuss..

Gary Hutchinson

“Grant would be best served staying put right now.

“He’s not PL ready at the moment. He could do a job in the Championship, but I suspect the top flight is a step too far.

“That’s not to say he won’t be a top player in the future, he will.

“He’s quick, agile and knows how to put the ball in the net.”

Jay Taylor

“This will be a big ask.

“Making the step up to the Championship from League One is big enough, but two divisions higher looks a tough ask.

“MY feeling is that they are preparing for the Championship already and looking to get a squad together now to reduce the impact of mass departures in the summer.

“I think it will be a tough six-months in the top flight but it should acclimatise him well for life in the Championship next year.”

Louie Chandler

"It will be a tough task but why not?

"Grant has shown he knows where the goal is so there is no reason he won't be able to recreate that in the Premier League.

"It ultimately comes down to his mentality. If he lets the top-flight overawe and intimidate him then he is going to struggle.

"If he approaches it with the attitude that he deserves to be there then he can definitely manage it."
