Birmingham City midfielder Cheikh NDoye has been linked with a move back to France today just six months after arriving in England.

The Senegal international has not lived up to expectations for Blues this season after arriving with a big reputation but he has still regularly featured under both Harry Redknapp and current boss Steve Cotterill.

Yet, the Birmingham Mail are reporting that L’Equipe reckon Ndoye could soon be heading back to France with two Ligue 1 sides showing an interest in the powerful midfielder.

Former club Angers and Strasbourg are both keen on signing Ndoye although they are seeking a loan deal until the end of the season.

Given the wages the 31-year old picks up at St. Andrew’s it’s highly unlikely that either side would be able to sign Ndoye on a permanent deal.

And, any loan may also see Birmingham paying a percentage of his wages. He has 18 months left on the two-year deal he signed in the summer.

Ndoye will also want to be playing regularly in order to keep his place in the Senegal squad for the upcoming World Cup.

The Verdict

It’s fair to say that Ndoye has been a bit of a disappointment this season for Blues. Whilst he has the physicality to deal with the Championship he just isn’t good enough on the ball.

However, Cotterill clearly still finds him useful and praised him after the game on Saturday and won’t want to lose another midfielder with Stephen Gleeson recently leaving.

It will come down to the finances though, if Blues can find a buyer, or even someone to pay all his wages, it has to be worth considering if they could bring someone else in. If not, they may as well keep him for the relegation battle.
