Matthew Pennington completed a late switch to Ipswich Town last week, making his debut in the hotly-contested East Anglian derby against Norwich City.

Whilst it might not rank on the scale of the Old Firm or the Manchester derby for many, it is every bit as vitriolic, tense and passionate as the well-known encounters from elsewhere in the UK.

There's no quarter given nor punches pulled in that part of the world when the two sides meet and for Pennington, it was a baptism of fire which he handled superbly.

The 23-year old spent time on loan with Leeds last year and was heavily linked with a move back to Elland Road this summer, but instead he joined up with Paul Hurst's side as they look to steer themselves away from the bottom of the table. A point against their bitter rivals was a perfect start and the on-loan Everton defender certainly made his mark.

His debut was lauded by many Ipswich fans after he turned in a competent and solid display, hopefully giving the Tractor Boys faithful a taste of what is to come in the next couple of months.
