Championship side Reading extended their good run of league form with a 1-0 victory over Barnsley at the Select Car Leasing Stadium yesterday afternoon.
John Swift’s strike in the 77th minute after a largely frustrating game proved to be enough to secure all three points for the Royals, having been dominated at the start of the second half with Callum Brittain hitting the post.
But in the end, this game summed up the Tykes’ current predicament, failing to capitalise on their momentum and switching off at the back as Swift made the most of a delicious ball from Scott Dann and grabbed his eighth league goal of the 2021/22 campaign.
Have Reading FC had a higher or lower average attendance compared to these 23 sides this season?
Not only was the latter crucial in supplying the assist for the 26-year-old’s winning goal, but also remained solid at the back alongside Liam Moore in helping the Berkshire outfit keep consecutive clean sheets in the Championship, after managing to hang on to their slender lead at the Cardiff City Stadium before the international break.
Former Crystal Palace centre-back Dann, who was also a star in that match against Mick McCarthy’s men, only started his first game for the second-tier club yesterday after needing to build up his fitness as he arrived on a free transfer in late August.
How did a selection of Reading fans react to his performance yesterday though? Was he rusty? A reliable operator at the heart of defence?
We take a look at some of the latest Twitter reaction.
Good to see the win through today, pretty indifferent game but Dann and Drinkwater both outstanding #readingfc

Huge win today. Scott Dann… just wow. Absolutely immense, was so calm and composed. Rock solid. Personally thought Rahman was awful today, caught out numerous times, especially first half. Puscas not far behind him. Ejaria awful as well. Better when Azeez came on. #ReadingFC

Finally home after a terrible journey there today. Pretty poor performance on the whole with a moment of genius from Swift after a brilliant pass from Dann. Dann looks like a great signing! Despite the performance, +3! So cant complain too much! #readingfc

Not one of our best performances – but it doesn’t matter – another win, another clean sheet and up to 7th. Scott Dann clear MoTM, didn’t put a foot wrong. Up The Ding! #readingfc

That's one way to win a game of football. Far from pretty but managed to grind out the win as the best teams do when they aren't playing well.
Dann top class from start to finish offers so much in terms of experience and consistently winning aerial duels #readingfc

Southwood looks better each game and Dann looks a shrewd signing. Thought both full backs had good games today. #readingfc
